Jr. High: Summer camps for grades 6-9

Early teen years involve a time of change, transition, and seeking. Our Jr. High programs focus on camper’s identity in Christ and who He made them to be, not what others might say they should be. They will be challenged by dynamic speakers in chapels, asked to develop deeper relationships with Christ, and grow through personal devotion time in God's Word. Jr. High is where we allow campers to choose their own free times, choose their preferred activities, and learn to interact with a wide variety of other campers and staff.

Jr. High camps are based out of our Ridge Camp. The Ridge offers a more rustic camp experience as campers stay in structures called Tabits. Tabits, commonly known as platform tents, create a more intimate cabin feel where campers really connect with each other and their counselor. There is a modern bath house a short walking distance from the Tabit locations. There are several options to choose from in our Jr. High camp sessions as this is one of our largest camper populations. No matter how you slice it Pine Ridge has what you are looking for.

Classic Camp:

Get the good ol fashioned camp experience with our Jr. High Classic Camp. This camp session allows each camper to experience all of the great activities and games we have to offer leaving just enough time left over to get some sleep. This camp option will give each camper a holistic camp experience allowing them a taste of many different programs. We will focus on deepening their faith through specific Bible teaching and activities that reinforce that they are God's handiwork and He loves them deeply. For Summer 2018 Pine Ridge is launching an all NEW set of programs during our Classic Camps called EmphasisOur new Emphasis offerings will be similar to our other add-on programs here at Pine Ridge. Campers will have the option to sign up for the program offered, but the difference with these programs is that they will be real-world focused teaching skills that can be used outside of a camp setting. Our goal is to offer unique programs that speak to each individual camper’s personality and interests and cultivating that God given passion. Each emphasis will be 5 1-hour classes taught by professionals in that field and will pair educational instruction with practical application. Check each Emphasis offering below!

Photography Emphasis: This program will be taught by our own professional photographer Dusty Damsgaard and be assisted by the camp media team. It will be open to any camper interested in photography. This Emphasis is $25 to enroll and is open to all, but will require each camper to bring their own camera. Phones will be accepted; however campers will not be allowed to use the device for anything other than the camera feature. We will use a check-in and check-out system for each device to protect all equipment. This program will focus on lighting, settings, angles, setting up a shot, action photos, landscape photos, and use of photos in the real world. Camper photos will be showcased in the end of the week slideshow and through our social media platforms. Emphasis fee will also allow unlimited access to a specialized SmugMug folder that will contain pictures from all of the program participants with unlimited downloads for family and friends.

Art Emphasis: This program will be taught by Beth Jansen, a local art instructor, and will be open to all interested campers. This Emphasis will require a $30 fee to cover materials used throughout the week. This Emphasis will explore each campers love of art beyond what is usually offered in the craft shop. Mrs. J will focus on several projects including stain glass work, stepping stones, and other mediums as time allows. All projects can be taken home by each camper to share with others and remind them of all their hard work.

Culinary Emphasis: This program will be taught by our very own Chef, Genelle Hinken, who has 7 years of experience in non-profit, healthcare, and corporate culinary work. This Emphasis will be open to all interested campers, but will require a $25 fee will cover food and materials used throughout the week. This Emphasis will explore the love of food and its preparation. Campers will learn basic knife skills, food safety, nutrition, and work hands on prepping meals they will share with their fellow campers that attend camp that week. In addition each camper will leave with a customized apron to remember their time and all of their hard work.

Xtreme Camp:

Want to get a little more out of your week? Good. Our Jr. High Xtreme Camp is the perfect remedy. This session offers optional, but in-depth, focused activities that can take your week to a whole new level. For a small additional activity fee you get all the classic camp flare with a little kick. Our Xtreme options include Battle Games (Laser Tag & Airsoft), Horsemanship, and Water Sports (tubing, skiing, knee boarding). This camp option for campers seeking a unique camp experience with like minded friends. Allowing them to step out and seek action and adventure throughout the week. Add-on the power, and deep truth of God's Word and you have a recipe for an awesome week!

This camp involves a 2 day, 1 night camp out at PJ Hoffmaster State Park where we will play games on the trail system and enjoy the beautiful sandy beaches of Lake Michigan before coming back to Pine Ridge. This camp calls and caters to the adventuresome soul in all of us. The focus of this camp will be to surround our campers in God's creation and marvel at all He has made. Reminding them that they are His crowning jewel of all they see and that God wants them most of all.
